You have beside you the first release from off-pop trio, Buzzard Lope. ItŐs not been easy getting it to you. Between the original sessions in summer 2008 and the current moment, thereŐs a tale of disease, death, love, tax and immigration that will doubtless form the backbone of a second release. But letŐs focus on the matter in handÉ

Biography:

After scratching a brief living playing jazz in the moth-eaten bars of Bedford in the early half of the decade, singer/pianist Roger Illingworth and double bassist Adam Jarvis poached Brazilian drummer Raphael Saib from a post-rock band and set about marrying the alternative pop of Ben Folds Five with the wrong-headed jazz and balladeering of Small Change era Tom Waits, with a little Thee Silver Mt Zion thrown into the mix. Both at live shows, and on the album, the trio is joined by a changing cast of brass, woodwind, strings, guitars and accordion, giving rise at times to lush and glistening arrangements, at other times simple and stark, and on the odd occasion, unashamedly pop. After gaining a publishing deal with RAK, the album was recorded at the beautifully equipped RAK studios, in the very same room thatŐs given rise to music by as diverse a clientele as Hot Chocolate, Neil Young, Radiohead, and Grinderman. The albumŐs central theme is the absurd difficulty of simply making a start; perhaps ironic, in light of the trivial and tragic delays on the road to this first release.

Lost Toys Records:

Daybreak is released by independent label Lost Toys Records, a Bedford-based collective of artists and musicians, home to the Johnny Parry Chamber Orchestra, visual artist Andy Holden, and post-hardcore group Ice, Sea, Dead People.
